User Interface
What makes a great user interface? Serious technology chops, gorgeous aesthetics, and a deep understanding of what matters to the people in front of the screen. It’s not easy, but you can get it right. First, put yourself in the user’s shoes. Learn how they work and what they need. Second, know the target platform inside and out. You might create buttons for a desktop application, but for a smartphone app you’d use swipe gestures instead. Third, give it a look and feel that fits the audience. A functional, no-nonsense design that’s perfect for a business program won’t work for a mobile app for teenagers. Finally, know what’s possible with the programming tools available. A beautiful design is worthless if the engineering team can’t build it.
